Introduction Metal housings for digital cameras are precision-engineered components, yet they are highly susceptible to defects such as dents and surface marks during the stamping and assembly processes. Traditional visual inspection often falls short, as it cannot quantify dent depth or local wall thickness with the necessary precision. To ensure structural integrity and aesthetic perfection, high-precision optical inspection is indispensable.

The Technology Choice For this challenge, we selected the Huaxian Optics Segmented Zoom Ultra-Depth-of-Field Objective (75×–15,000×). This system offers a unique combination of capabilities:

Inspection Methodology
- Quantifying Dent Depth: By focusing on the reference plane versus the dent bottom, the device measures the Z-axis differential. Our integrated software then calculates micron-level depth against strict engineering tolerances.
- Wall Thickness Analysis: For critical areas like lens mount openings, the system utilizes layer-focused imaging on both top and bottom surfaces. This allows for precise single-point thickness measurement, effectively detecting thin walls or material deficiencies.
